Translating Berlin

The Stephen Spender Trust is working with the University of Oxford and Humboldt University Berlin to develop teaching resources on ‘translating Berlin’, aimed at pupils at UK schools studying German and English literature.

The resources bring 1920s and 30s Berlin to life, highlighting connections between cultural figures in Britain and Germany, Oxford and Berlin.

In November 2021 we are holding a ‘Translating Berlin’ workshop for learners of German at the Bodleian Library, and publishing a pack of teaching resources for learners of German and English Literature aged 15-18.

All resources will be available open-access on the Happy in Berlin website, and will be linked to sites on the project’s map of Berlin:
